📝 Notes

Kayama Yuzo(加山 雄三) is a legendary Japanese actor, singer-songwriter, guitarist, and pianist.

He is affectionately known as "Waka Daisho(若大将)", meaning “Young Captain”, a nickname taken from the title of his hit movie series.

His composer pen name, Dan Kosaku(弾 厚作), was inspired by his two most respected composers: Dan Ikuma(團 伊玖磨) and Yamada Kosaku(山田 耕筰).

Kimi no Tame ni(君のために) is a masterpiece that reveals his diverse musicality. The album is filled with highlights, including the orchestral instrumental "Kimi no Subete(君のすべて)," "Sherrie(シェリー)" performed with The Launchers(ザ・ランチャーズ), a band closely associated with Kayama, the Doo-wop track "Natsu wa Mijikai(夏はみじかい)," the Mood Kayo ballad "Shinobiai(しのび逢い)," and the Bossa Nova numbers "Lonely Night Coming(ロンリー・ナイト・カミング)" and "Kurai Nami(暗い波)".

A particularly unique track is "Poyotan(ポヨタン)," an instrumental dedicated to his beloved cat, featuring the psychedelic GS band The Happenings Four(ザ・ハプニングス・フォー). While its surreal mix of comical performance and his own "cat meowing" received mixed reviews from listeners, it remains a charming and beloved favorite among cult enthusiasts.

The album also features "Aru Hi Nagisa ni(ある日渚に)," a signature song for which Kayama unusually wrote the Japanese lyrics himself. While he often writes his own lyrics for English songs like "Sherrie," most of his other Japanese lyrics are written by Iwatani Tokiko(岩谷 時子).

Although often categorized as a soundtrack due to the inclusion of three songs from the film "Rio no Waka Daisho(リオの若大将 – Young Guy in Rio, TOHO Pictures, 1968)" — including "Sherrie," which is featured in the movie despite not being credited as such on the record jacket — it is strictly an original studio album and stands as one of the most ambitious works in his discography.
